For now, because our fight continues!

Early this morning (10th March 2026), the fences arrived at Packsaddle Community Fields. Ugly, metal Heras fencing. And lots of it!

The iron wall was soon and our local community, who have enjoyed the fields unchallenged for 50 years, were soon fenced out of them.

Thank you to everyone who has shared photos with us today and thank you to everyone who has reached out with support (which is still very much needed). It is very much appreciated.

And a big thank you to our local community who, on what was a very emotional morning, behaved with courtesy and respect towards the contractors employed by Somerset Council to deliver and erect the fencing. It was refreshing to hear of the many conversations had with them – showing that whilst our Council don’t seem to know good behaviour from bad, we still do!

Thanks also to the news outlets who have reported on what’s happened today:

Frome Times – Anger at Packsaddle Fields path closure

Somerset Confidential – Fury at Somerset Council’s Capitulation

Somerset Leveller – Resident’s fury as green space fenced off to ‘assist developer’ who wants to build homes

We are trying our best to keep our social media channels up to date with photos and stories of what’s going on. If you aren’t already following us there, please do – Facebook and Instagram.

And finally, please sign the petition organised by Cllr Adam Boyden, initially intended to stop the fencing but let’s now use this to get the fencing removed!
